Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that damage the optic nerve, often with few or no early symptoms. It’s one of the leading causes of irreversible vision loss—but with early detection and ongoing care, we can often slow or prevent serious damage.

Why Glaucoma Is So Serious

Glaucoma usually affects side (peripheral) vision first, which is easy to miss without testing. By the time noticeable symptoms appear, significant damage may already have occurred.

Risk factors include:

  • Age 40+

  • Family history of glaucoma

  • High eye pressure

  • Thin corneas or certain optic nerve appearances

  • Diabetes or vascular conditions

How We Detect and Monitor Glaucoma

At Advanced EyeCare Solutions, glaucoma care involves a combination of detailed testing and ongoing monitoring to protect your vision over time. We measure your eye pressure, closely examine the appearance of your optic nerve, and use visual field testing to check for subtle changes in your peripheral vision that you may not notice on your own. We also use OCT imaging to measure the thickness of the nerve fiber layer and track any changes over time. Together, these tests help us detect glaucoma as early as possible and monitor how well your treatment is working.

Treatment and Management

Glaucoma treatment often starts with medicated eye drops to lower eye pressure. In some cases, laser or surgical treatments may be recommended in coordination with a specialist. Our role is to:

  • Detect glaucoma as early as possible

  • Monitor your eye health regularly

  • Adjust treatment in partnership with you and, when needed, your surgeon

When to Schedule

Even if your vision seems “fine,” routine eye exams with glaucoma screening are crucial—especially if you have risk factors or a family history of the disease.
