Contact Lens Problems

Contact lenses should feel almost invisible. If they constantly bother you, something isn’t right. Contact lens–related problems can range from mild irritation to serious infections that threaten your vision.

Signs Your Contacts Need Attention

Schedule a visit if you notice:

  • Redness or irritation after putting lenses in

  • Burning or dryness that worsens throughout the day

  • Blurry or hazy vision in one or both eyes

  • Mucus or discharge on your lenses or in your eyes

  • Pain, light sensitivity, or the feeling of a scratch

Do not keep wearing your lenses if your eye is painful or very red—this can quickly become an emergency.

Common Causes

Contact lens discomfort can come from:

  • Improper lens fit or outdated prescription

  • Dry eye or reduced tear quality

  • Sleeping or showering in lenses (when not approved)

  • Over-wearing daily/bi-weekly/monthly lenses

  • Sensitivity to cleaning solutions

  • Early infection or inflammation on the eye surface

Our Approach to Contact Lens Problems

At Advanced EyeCare Solutions, we take a thorough, personalized approach to contact lens problems. During your visit, we carefully examine the front surface of your eyes and eyelids, assess how your lenses fit, move, and sit on the eye, and evaluate the overall condition of the lenses themselves. We’ll also review your wearing schedule and care routine to spot any habits that might be contributing to discomfort. Based on what we find, we may recommend changing your lens material, design, or replacement schedule, switching to different cleaning solutions or preservative-free options, treating any underlying dryness or inflammation, or temporarily pausing contact lens wear to give your eyes time to heal.
